STAR Guides Wilderness - Porn Addiction in Teenage Girls

Porn addicts are usually stereotyped as being male teenagers or awkward older gentlemen. When most people think about a porn addict, the perception that is formed in their minds is of a pimply teenager or an older socially awkward guy. But, that is not the case anymore; internet pornography has also lured teenage girls into the fold and gotten them hooked on the intense “experiences” that it offers.

Girls and Pornography

It is believed that about 60% of teenage girls get exposed to internet pornography before the age of 18. The intentions behind viewing pornography are quite different among teenage girls, when compared to the boys. The male demographic generally views porn for the graphic images and the acts being committed. Girls have a more “romantic” view of pornography; they start looking at it as a substitute for relationships.

Specific Content

The popularity of pornography among teenage girls and women can be gauged from the fact that, pornographers are now producing content specifically aimed to catch the attention of female viewers. The adult industry has become in this new growing demographic, and they are starting to exploit it to make more profits.

Real Risk

An interesting stat suggests that women are far more likely to enact what they watch in pornographic images. They look for explicit material that has more ‘meaning’ to them and which helps them create fantasies, and eventually act them out in real life; this poses a real threat to their livelihood. Teenage girls can go on chat rooms and other unsavory websites, looking for people who can help them live out their fantasies.

The simple fact is that, technology – apps, chat rooms, anonymous sites – is making it easier for teenage girls and boys to engage in various perverse acts. And trying to control or monitor them is becoming increasingly difficult, as a result the number of adolescents becoming sex and porn addicts has increased exponentially over the years.

This is why we have designed a specific treatment program to help these youths. STAR Guides Wilderness therapy program can help teenagers deal with their inappropriate sexual impulses; we also have programs specifically developed to treat teenage girls and put them on a path towards healthier sexual behavior.
